ABOUT US

A Rich History of Learning

Tuttle Avenue School takes its name from the historic Tuttle family, who were among the prominent early settlers and landowners in Eastport. Following the merger of the Eastport and South Manor school districts in 2000, the school was constructed to provide a modern, dedicated facility for primary elementary students. Designed by H2M Architects & Engineers, the eco-friendly building earned LEED Gold certification by incorporating sustainable technology such as geothermal heating, solar hot water, and a 100kW photovoltaic array. Today, the school serves students from Pre-K through 2nd grade within the Eastport-South Manor School District. Emphasizing early leadership and character development, Tuttle Avenue School proudly maintains official Lighthouse Certification through the Leader in Me program.

School Information

We are committed to fostering an engaging, supportive, and academically rich environment for all students and families. Below is an overview of key information, resources, and communication channels designed to help parents stay connected throughout the school year.

  • Five young students sit together around a table in a classroom, smiling and working on art projects.

Please make sure you call the attendance office at 631-801-3059 when your child is absent. Once your child returns to school, please send in a note with him/her stating the dates and reason why your child was absent from school. If your child arrives late to school he/she must be signed into school by an adult at the main entrance.

  • Common Sense Media is the digital citizenship program that we use at Tuttle Avenue School for our students. Click here for the Common Sense Media website which has more information for parents and students about digital citizenship and age appropriate guides to television, movies, websites and apps.

I strongly encourage parents to try and schedule all activities and appointments after the school day. If it is an emergency and you need to pick up your child prior to the end of the normal school day you should do so prior to 3:10 P.M. due to safety precautions. In order to make the dismissal go as quickly as possible please send your child in with a note stating that you will be picking them up at a certain time. Children will only be released to their parent/guardians or emergency contacts. Photo identification is required when releasing children to ensure your child’s safety. If you need to make other arrangements, please write a note in advance to inform your classroom teacher of any changes in the dismissal procedure. Please be aware that siblings, cousins, neighbors, babysitters, etc. under the age of 18 cannot pick up your child under any circumstances.

  • Please update your Emergency Contact Information in Infinite Campus as soon as possible. Also, please give careful consideration to the additional names you submit; these persons should be easily accessible to the school, and people to whom you will entrust the care of your child in the event we are unable to reach you in an emergency.

  • The Shared Decision Making Committee is a mandatory committee required by the New York State Education Department. The committees meet regularly at each school, and are comprised of teachers, parents, administrators, and community members. The purpose of SDM is to work together on activities and initiatives that benefit the total student body.

Shared decision making is driven by the belief that the most effective choices are made when those affected by the decisions are involved in the decision making process. It is a process by which members of the educational community cooperate in identifying and implementing activities to advance and improve learning.
